Maternity Leave Ended; The Career I Built Nearly Didn't Survive

After returning from maternity leave, I rejoined work only to face unexpected challenges. The system promotion that had been promised before my leave did not happen, despite my five years of dedication, flexibility, and recognition for commitment, contribution, and productivity. Things had changed drastically, and eventually, the project asked me to move out—though framed in polite words, it felt disheartening. After spending 56 days on the bench, I joined another project within the same company. However, the expectations there demanded 24/7 availability, leaving me with no work‑life balance. During this period, I applied for external opportunities and was fortunate to secure a role with a fixed shift and a 90% salary hike. I was thrilled to join a project recently transitioned from the UK, where I managed a small team. From the very beginning, I sensed resistance from the team. They were uncomfortable with being managed and unreceptive to feedback. The process clearly needed improvements to enhance progress and customer experience, so I introduced changes in approach and implementation. Unfortunately, the team perceived this as being strict, rude, or pressuring. Despite giving my best, maintaining professionalism, and driving productivity, I was informed—just three days before my probation confirmation—that I would be terminated. The decision came without proper discussion, no opportunity to present my side, and no HR intervention. It left me shocked, blank, and unemployed before I could even process the reality.
